One of my favourite places to stop on my way to Tofino is Cathedral Grove. Those big mossy trees are so impressive and inspiring. The different colours of the long, textured bark make old trees beautiful and unique. Cathedral Grove is a 300 hectare provincial park that showcases an ancient Douglas fir ecosystem, stewarded by the Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Presently, the biggest trees in the Grove are about 800 years old; they are the survivors of a forest fire that ravaged the area about 350 years ago.
