Botanical Beach Mussels
$85.00 – $465.00Botanical Beach Mussels
$85.00 – $465.00Exploring the gorgeous pot holes at Botanical Beach near Port Renfrew. The sandstone here has lovely pools that are little aquariums, the shells and sea life are amazing. But I am always drawn to the mussel shells that cling to the rocks, and these were draped so wonderfully with flowing seaweed.

All year you can see resident killer whales, otters, seals, sea lions, Bald eagles, osprey and a variety of seabirds.

Newcastle Arbutus
$85.00 – $595.00Newcastle Arbutus
$85.00 – $595.00Walking around Newcastle Island just off of Nanaimo, I spotted this amazing Arbutus tree clinging to the rocks and reaching out over the edge. As if to take in the view from it’s perch, these trees can often live in the harshest of conditions.

Beach Day
$85.00 – $360.00Beach Day
$85.00 – $360.00I find the beautiful west coast so inspiring. We often find sand dollars on Salt Spring Island. Urchin shells are not as common to find here, but a quick nip over to Port Renfrew will bring a wealth of amazing sea creatures in the gorgeous tide pools on Botanical Beach.

Incoming Tide
$85.00 – $465.00Incoming Tide
$85.00 – $465.00The west coast offers an endless variety of compositional possibilities to the artist. Botany Bay near Port Renfrew inspired this piece. I stood on the shore for hours absorbing the feeling of the place and the character of the elements. Small preliminary sketches begin my process. Back at my studio I composed this painting with the foreground rocks designed to represent the eroding yet steadfast island resisting the relentless seas.

$85.00 – $595.00The easily navigated South Beach and Nuu-chah-nulth Trail leads to this incredible beach south end of Wickaninnish Beach in beautiful Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. This place is an artist’s dream and I have been fortunate to have spent many hours there. Wild and wet or sapphire blue and serene. This is the beach with everything…exciting, inspirational and just plain awesome!

$85.00 – $345.00Painted on site at Saxe Point Park in Esquimalt. Inspired by the spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and Strait of Juan de Fuca. The park was created in 1934, and during World War II, many mature Douglas fir and Grand fir trees were cleared and a searchlight was installed as part of shoreline defense.

$85.00 – $465.00Yes it can rain in Port Renfrew
$85.00 – $465.00A great beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island in Port Renfrew, I’ve been here on sunny days but it poured this time. Sheets of rain just coming down. But the magic of the place was all ours and it was beautiful.

Golden Hinde
$130.00 – $500.00Golden Hinde
$130.00 – $500.00There are so many mountains to climb here on the island and the Golden Hinde provides spectacular views. Often hikers will bare their backsides on The Golden Hinde because the next mountain in view is actually called The Behinde. The Golden Hinde is the highest peak on the island, and is located near the geographic centre of Vancouver Island, as well as near the centre of Strathcona Provincial Park.

Precarious Balance
$85.00 – $205.00Precarious Balance
$85.00 – $205.00This collaged monoprint was inspired by many plein air sessions on the Nanaimo River. I love watching birds and am impressed by people who balance stones along the shore. It occurred to me that the stones could be a metaphor for human relationship to nature. It is clear that this beautiful and necessary balance is becoming more and more precarious. I hope this piece inspires others to consider their balance with nature.

Visions of Metchosin
$85.00 – $465.00Visions of Metchosin
$85.00 – $465.00One summer day, we were walking along the coast in the breathtaking East Sooke Park, and I settled down to do a series of sketches of this beautiful rugged coastline. Windswept trees, rocky shores scattered with the long spirals of bull kelp, sun casting white across the ocean, islands peeping out like whales from the turquoise sea. It was a blissful landscape.
When I returned to my studio I fused the sketches into one painting.artist: GILLIAN REDWOOD

Forest Bathing
$130.00 – $500.00Forest Bathing
$130.00 – $500.00The forest is a huge reason I moved to the island. That and the ocean. If ever I need a boost in my life I go into the forest to reset the ‘refresh’ button. Light can look different there, smells are earthy, sounds of the leaves in the wind are all soothing. My inspiration for this piece is the Upper Maple Syrup Trail on Maple Mountain.
