    Lightshow at LongBeach

The beach is shallow for miles and the horizon line is lost where sea meets sky. Energetic clouds move quickly across the sky.

Yes it can rain in Port Renfrew

    $85.00$465.00

A great beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island in Port Renfrew, I’ve been here on sunny days but it poured this time. Sheets of rain just coming down. But the magic of the place was all ours and it was beautiful.

This is a spot south of Willow Point where we go with friends to have a bonfire, usually on Sunday evenings. I went a little earlier in the day to catch the light. One of our favorite spots.

    Sunset on the Estuary

My favourite route to drive from Comox to Courtenay is along the foreshore of the K’ómoks estuary. The views are spectacular with the Beaufort Mountains as a backdrop, ever changing tidal flats, eagles, herons and seals and occasionally a small fishing boat or two moored alongside.

    Late Summer Cowichan Bay

Always a lovely walk along the estuary in Cowichan Bay, this time late summer, with the crickets singing and the warm sun just setting behind us. Lovely view looking back toward the town of Cowichan Bay

    Somenos Marsh

    $85.00$595.00

I have always loved a good marsh, the sound of birds and life is comforting. And the Somenos Marsh Conservation Area is a really good marsh! It’s a globally significant Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA), and an annual overwintering and feeding spot for waterfowl travelling the Pacific Flyway. Archaeological evidence shows the Cowichan people have occupied the lands in and around the marsh for at least 4,000 years.

    The Fog Has Lifted

    $135.00$480.00

I was inspired to capture this view because of the connection to community and nature, which are so important to me and why I live here. These fields used to be part of Farquharson Farms. Twenty years ago they were jointly purchased by Ducks Unlimited and other partners in the Pacific Estuary Conservation Program (PECP). Now this 192 acre piece of land is a productive farm in spring and summer, and a winter refuge for Trumpeter and Mute swans.

    Winter Marsh

Walking along the estuary in Cowichan Bay is always magical. This time was during the winter and the fields had flooded providing a lovely texture against the wild grasses, with Mt.Tzouhalem rising behind.

    Mesmerized

I am mesmerized by the constant changes in the sky and drift wood. This is my favourite little segment of beach along Victoria’s most popular footpath. I come here to unwind at the end of my day, with the comfort of the cemetery behind me and the Salish sea stretched out before me.

    Sidney Harbour Winter Sunrise #7

    $85.00$595.00

Walking on the seawall in an early morning walk after a late night flight, I was treated to this spectacular winter sunrise from Sidney. The layers of cloud and veiled light provided subtle and unexpected colours and shapes. This piece was painted wet on wet with a lot of running of the acrylic paint and I was thoroughly satisfied with the feeling it evokes.

This painting came about after listening to St Cecilia’s Mass while lying atop Anderson Hill watching birds swoop and clouds scud across the azure sky.

Whiffen Spit in Sooke is a beautiful place to relax and unwind. I lived in Sooke for 10 years and this was my favourite place to take my dog for a walk, no matter what the weather! Sunny or stormy, we loved going there. This painting is the view from the spit looking back towards where Sooke Harbour House is.

Winds had howled for days. It was the second storm in just a few weeks. As the storm edged its way back, I headed for the shores. The breaking light was stunning and the waves were still smashing up against the rocks with gusto. There is this sensation of being all in one – a wholeness, alive.
