Aspen Trees
$85.00 – $345.00Aspen Trees
$85.00 – $345.00Painted onsite at the Colquitz River Trail. The bark of the trees caught my attention, which is funny because usually its the trembling leaves that people notice about aspen.

Mossy Forest
$85.00 – $205.00Mossy Forest
$85.00 – $205.00“Mossy Forest” was inspired by the forests that surround Campbell River, including the incredible Elk Falls Park. The majestic trees covered with moss are a staple in the Vancouver Island landscape. You can feel the coolness of the greenery that reminds you of a walk in a forest. The sight of rotting logs and vegetation that sustains and maintains the forest life. Simply magical.

Forest Bathing
$130.00 – $500.00Forest Bathing
$130.00 – $500.00The forest is a huge reason I moved to the island. That and the ocean. If ever I need a boost in my life I go into the forest to reset the ‘refresh’ button. Light can look different there, smells are earthy, sounds of the leaves in the wind are all soothing. My inspiration for this piece is the Upper Maple Syrup Trail on Maple Mountain.

A Rare Breed
$85.00 – $595.00A Rare Breed
$85.00 – $595.00We went out for lunch at the Glenrosa Farm Restaurant in Metchosin and saw a few ewes pruning the trees they were under. I started thinking about how trees shaped by ewes morph into ewes.

$130.00 – $595.00This is a cedar tree near Goldstream River, a magical place and a tiny remnant of the mighty forests that covered Vancouver Island. The old growth trees here are around 800 years old.

Standing Together
$85.00 – $480.00Standing Together
$85.00 – $480.00I just love the mossy trunks of the old Maple trees. The trees are so big and have so much character, they are like people. This pair stand together, witnessing the world rushing by as they quietly and slowly grow

A Good Day For Ice Cream
$85.00 – $595.00A Good Day For Ice Cream
$85.00 – $595.00The shape of this thickly padded rock near the edge of a cliff at Mt. Wells Regional Park made me think of an ice cream cone. The forests here are often messy in their natural state, so it’s nice when you can rest your eye on a simple shape.

Avatar Grove
$135.00 – $480.00Avatar Grove
$135.00 – $480.00The Avatar Grove is managed by the Ancient Forest Alliance and improvements of boardwalks and stairs have greatly improved the experience. There are lower and upper groves to wander through, the lower descending to the Gordon River. The road is basic logging road and can be filled with pot holes. The wonders of standing amongst these old giants in a real wilderness setting is certainly a tranquil experience.

Newcastle Arbutus
$85.00 – $595.00Newcastle Arbutus
$85.00 – $595.00Walking around Newcastle Island just off of Nanaimo, I spotted this amazing Arbutus tree clinging to the rocks and reaching out over the edge. As if to take in the view from it’s perch, these trees can often live in the harshest of conditions.

Fallen Giant
$85.00Fallen Giant
$85.00Lone Tree Hill is a small CRD park in the Highlands. It hosts wonderful arbutus and fir trees and has a view point at the top that is well worth the climb. This lovely fallen giant is only a short walk up the trail and into the woods.

The Wind Blows in All Directions on St John’s Point
$130.00 – $595.00The Wind Blows in All Directions on St John’s Point
$130.00 – $595.00In 2017 the Mayne Island Conservancy was busy raising money to save Saint John’s Point from development. This painting is one that I did from sketches made on site, and proceeds from the sale of the original were donated to this cause. The Conservancy saved the Point, a magnificent stretch of Coastal Douglas Fir landscape and over 2 km of coastline.

Visions of Metchosin
$85.00 – $465.00Visions of Metchosin
$85.00 – $465.00One summer day, we were walking along the coast in the breathtaking East Sooke Park, and I settled down to do a series of sketches of this beautiful rugged coastline. Windswept trees, rocky shores scattered with the long spirals of bull kelp, sun casting white across the ocean, islands peeping out like whales from the turquoise sea. It was a blissful landscape.
When I returned to my studio I fused the sketches into one painting.artist: GILLIAN REDWOOD
