Fishing Floats

Thanks to wind and current patterns, big storms bring debris from Japan to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Beach combers feel like they’ve won the lottery if they find one of these Japanese glass fishing floats. Many are over 100 years old!

Sarah Grindler grew up on Salt Spring Island. She spent most of her childhood on the beach and in the water.
