Petro-ecomomics. Not a sum-zero game.

The rocks and waves were encountered as I clamored over the shoreline north of Botany Bay. You need to be careful to keep your footing as one slip into the thrashing and very cold waves could have nasty consequences. It is easy to get seduced by natures beauty into below tidewater situations as well. Being stranded on an incoming tide would turn you into a statistic here so be mindful if you explore this section. The intent of this painting is to consider the impact of that seemingly non-threatening oil tanker on the horizon on this spectacular ecosystem in the foreground.

I am driven to create work that is perceived by the viewer to be “beautiful”, that promotes a release of dopamine in their brain. That emotional response will engage people’s imagination and they then will consider the subject more intimately than if they only relate intellectually. My inspiration is the people and places of Vancouver island.
