Playfaire Park

Springtime at Playfaire Park is crazy beautiful. There are thousands of camas blooming in among the Garry Oak trees in this micro ecosystem. I love the purple of the camas against the green of spring. The Garry Oak ecosystem is home to more plant species than any other land-based ecosystem in coastal British Columbia. This park is located in the traditional territory of the the Lekwungen (Songhees and Esquimalt) People. Camas and the many other plants found in Garry Oak meadows are important Indigenous food sources. Unfortunately, this ecosystem is endangered, with less than 5% of the original habitat remaining in near-natural conditions.

I have always been involved in some sort of creative pursuit. In 2012 I started to paint on a regular basis and began to distinguish myself as an artist several years later. I am mostly self-taught but have taken numerous courses and workshops from local and international artists. I would say I’ve been mostly influenced by the expressionist movement, and by Modigliani in particular.
