Somenos Marsh

I have always loved a good marsh, the sound of birds and life is comforting. And the Somenos Marsh Conservation Area is a really good marsh! It’s a globally significant Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA), and an annual overwintering and feeding spot for waterfowl travelling the Pacific Flyway. Archaeological evidence shows the Cowichan people have occupied the lands in and around the marsh for at least 4,000 years.

Cheryl Painter was born and raised in the beautiful Cowichan Valley; and yes – as ironic as it may seem, ‘Painter’ really is her surname! Her creative training led her to a successful career in Graphic Design. Eventually Cheryl quit the business and focused on what would ultimately be her career calling – painting.
