    Summer in the Mountains

    $85.00$595.00

I have had well over 500 bear encounters in a variety of different habitats – from our beaches, rivers and lakes to mountains. This painting was inspired from hiking the mountains surrounding the Port Alberni area.

    The Fog Has Lifted

    $135.00$480.00

I was inspired to capture this view because of the connection to community and nature, which are so important to me and why I live here. These fields used to be part of Farquharson Farms. Twenty years ago they were jointly purchased by Ducks Unlimited and other partners in the Pacific Estuary Conservation Program (PECP). Now this 192 acre piece of land is a productive farm in spring and summer, and a winter refuge for Trumpeter and Mute swans.

Lone Tree Hill is a small CRD park in the Highlands. It hosts wonderful arbutus and fir trees and has a view point at the top that is well worth the climb. This lovely fallen giant is only a short walk up the trail and into the woods.

    Visions of Metchosin

    $85.00$465.00

One summer day, we were walking along the coast in the breathtaking East Sooke Park, and I settled down to do a series of sketches of this beautiful rugged coastline. Windswept trees, rocky shores scattered with the long spirals of bull kelp, sun casting white across the ocean, islands peeping out like whales from the turquoise sea. It was a blissful landscape.
When I returned to my studio I fused the sketches into one painting.

    Playfaire Park

    $85.00$465.00

Springtime at Playfaire Park is crazy beautiful. There are thousands of camas blooming in among the Garry Oak trees in this micro ecosystem. I love the purple of the camas against the green of spring. The Garry Oak ecosystem is home to more plant species than any other land-based ecosystem in coastal British Columbia. This park is located in the traditional territory of the the Lekwungen (Songhees and Esquimalt) People. Camas and the many other plants found in Garry Oak meadows are important Indigenous food sources. Unfortunately, this ecosystem is endangered, with less than 5% of the original habitat remaining in near-natural conditions.

Since1860, Fisgard Lighthouse has served continuously as a beacon on Canada’s West Coast. Although still in operation, it also serves as a museum with interactive displays and vintage photographs. It occupies the same location as Fort Rodd Hill National Historic site – a beautiful park featuring acres of historical buildings and meadows overlooking Esquimalt Harbour.

Ocean at Maple Bay water study

Maple Bay is a beautifully sheltered deep bay that faces Salt Spring Island. At low tide it offers incredible beachcombing and tide pools. And there’s a lot of sea life to see as well, including otters, seals, and the occasional visiting orca whales. This is one my favourite summer swimming spots.

  • April Point

    April Point

Years ago me and a few family members would once in while take a trip to April Point on Quadra Island BC. I snapped a few pictures of the area for inspiration on my most resent trip there. I captured the cool and crisp BC coastline feeling. That fresh sea air and the damp rocks. Also I had to place a local bald eagle in there as there is so many in the Campbell River area it wouldn’t seem right not to ! The eagle is placed in such a way that it pulled the whole piece together for a perfect balance.

A pail and a shovel, soft sand and tidal pools … what could be better. Chesterman Beach is one of the best beaches on Vancouver Island to explore – especially at low tide. Tofino has some of the best tidal flora and fauna from Mexico to Alaska. Sea stars number in the hundreds, orb-like sea anemone and sea urchins cling to rocky tidal caves, and everywhere you step, hermit crabs scuttle.

  • Waiting in Wonder 2 chairs

    Waiting in Wonder 2 chairs

Mayne Island community raised 1/2 the money necessary to protect this piece of land. The CRD contributed the other 1/2 and this is now a new park on Mayne Island. Walking the trail along the ocean, I came across this spot with the 2 chairs and right away wondered who sat here, and what was the story. What were they watching or waiting to see? I am hoping the viewer would be thinking the same thing and inviting themselves to sit and contemplate.

Miner’s lettuce is one of the early spring vegetables that miner’s ate when they first came to the West Coast. This image is part of my Mason Jar Series in which I explored family history, which quickly moved into food security and now has also moved into environmental security. Cole Island National Historic Site

Cole Island is a provincial and a national historic site located in Esquimalt Harbour. In 1860, the Royal Navy began construction of a munitions depot on Cole Island. Eventually, 16 solid structures were used to store and recondition highly explosive munitions during the Crimean war and throughout World War One. Five buildings remain. The beautiful island is open to the public during daylight hours, and many kayakers and other boaters stop there to take the self-guided tour.
